Justine Yang Bruce, MD

Co-leader, Project 3

Collaborator, Projects 2 and 4

Dr. Bruce’s research career has focused primarily on drug development by translating promising new cancer drugs into early phase clinical trials. She has experience in designing, developing and leading innovative early phase clinical trials that bring new compounds into treatment of patients with advanced solid malignancies as well as organ-specific malignancies, such as head and neck cancers. As a clinician-scientist, she understands the importance of utilizing biomarkers and other correlative studies as a way to evaluate and test novel agents during a clinical trial. Dr. Bruce has served as principal investigator of several industry-sponsored phase I clinical trials (TKI258, axitinib plus crizotinib).  She has designed, developed and now leads two investigator initiated phase I clinical trials (TAK700 and X-82). She also has experience reviewing clinical trials at the University of Wisconsin (member of UW Carbone Cancer Center Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee).

Dr. Bruce serves as primary medical oncologist in head and neck oncology. She is an active member of the head and neck oncology tumor board. She also brings strong phase I clinical trial expertise and a growing portfolio of drug development work that will help advance the most promising syndecan agents developed in SPORE project 3 for future clinical trial investigation.
